Updates:

Historic Merit Badges
Updated Requirements
Rev. 4/30/2010

Troop 90 will be conducting a Merit Badge Day on June 19th.
Information available at www.bsatroop90.org/

Troop 270 will be conducting workshops, for T270 Scouts.
The volunteer merit badge counselors will each be discussing and presenting information pertaining to the Historic merit badges on the dates listed below.
Although you may be able to work on the worksheets during the workshop, you will not be able to fully complete the merit badges on these workshop dates.
It will be up to each Scout to work with the merit badge counselors to complete the badges.

Tracking June 7, 2010 Brian C.
Signaling June 14, 2010 Ray B.

In the last 99 years, there have been many changes in the merit badge offerings. As society has changed, the Boy Scouts of America has adapted by revising the requirements, implementing name changes, adding new merit badges, and in some instances, eliminating some badges altogether.

For the 100th Anniversary Celebration, four vintage merit badges are being released for the centennial celebration year only, giving Boy Scouts the hands-on opportunity to experience the exciting past of Scouting while learning how our world has changed in that 100 years.

The historical merit badges will count toward a Scout’s rank advancement. However, Scouts must start and finish all requirements within the year 2010. So if your guys built furniture for their patrol kitchen at last year’s summer camp, they can’t use that product for the Carpentry merit badge. And don’t delay—after Dec. 31, 2010, these merit badges will go back on the “retired” list.

Badges may be earned by individual Scouts, but districts and councils are encouraged to offer opportunities to complete requirements for at least some of these merit badges at summer camp, local merit badge workshops, BSA 100th Anniversary events, and other special venues.

I have been informed by Sherry, who runs the Rubidoux Nature Center
at the Santa Ana River Wildlife Area, that she has a number of good Eagle project
ideas, and would love to have Life Scouts work on their Eagle project at
her center. Sherry is the mom of an Eagle Scout herself, and very pro-Scout,

Related message from Marcelyn:
This is more info for the guys looking for Eagle Projects.
The Louis Rubidoux Nature center (where Mike H. did his project) suffered heavy damage when the river changed course.
At least one of the bridges mentioned was made as an Eagle project.
This place is near and dear us in the past they have always be great to us helping Cub Scouts with requirements,
helping Boy Scouts with various things they needed including learning about poisonous plants.
It's another resource for Scouts looking for Eagle Projects.
Sherry mentioned to Beth H. that she did have a wish list, so there may be other things needed as well.

Eagle Scout Projects Available

Eagle Scout Medel
Living Free Animal Sanctuary would like to extend an invitation to all Scouts looking for projects worthy of Eagle grade.

We are a nonprofit donor supported, no-kill, cat and dog rescue located in the heart of Riverside County, high up in the San Jacinto Mountains, in Mountain Center.  Living Free's mission is to rescue cats and dogs slated for euthanasia in public shelters and find them forever loving homes. Each project we've identified helps make life better for our rescued cats and dogs while they reside with us until they're adopted to new families.

For each completed project Living Free will mount a plaque with the Scouts name, date, and troop number in dedication to their achievement. We will also include a posting on our web site with photo and details of the project, along with submission of press releases to local newspapers.

For more information and details on several projects we have available, visit our web site at www.living-free.org and follow the "How To Help" navigation to Volunteer / Boy Scout Eagle Projects

We invite you to visit Living Free for a tour of our 153 acre facility.  Please contact me if you have any additional questions.
On behalf of all our rescued cats and dogs, we thank you for considering Living Free Animal Sanctuary for your Eagle Scout projects.
